Photorealistic Misty Forest – Speed Level Design | Unity 2020

Figure used for scale reference For building up terrain with models, ensure that the transitions between the models are not noticeable, otherwise, they will look out of place Building up terrain around the archway creates emphasis towards the arch, establishing a focal point Matching terrain textures with model textures/colours, help them blend more into the terrain To achieve realism, the small details are everything. So make sure you have lots of detail on your ground Pathway helps establish archway more in the natural surroundings Lighting is always important, spend some time testing out different angles and colours to see what best suits your scene Adding volumetric lighting Adding more ground details to remove the flatness of the default terrain Leaves provided a great way to mask any ugly intersections between the terrain and other models Notice I added my trees after the groundwork was mostly done. This was so I could easily see the ground detail without other models obscuring my view ☀️ For lighting (including fog), notice that my colours are not that saturated, this is what gives it that softness and realism. ☀️ One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is that their colouring is way too saturated, so, keep that in mind when you work on your own scenes The colour-grading is very subtle on this scene, I’m using the ACES preset and have a green tinge to the color filter I don’t care about detail too much for these areas since they are just background, so, I quickly mass place the various models Varying terrain height to add more interest I plan for the camera to go through this section so I pay closer attention to the ground detail Ferns break up the flatness and smoothness of the terrain I take more care in places tree here as I want the volumetric light to not be too obscured Fallen tree acts as another focal point Animation created with cinemachines dolly track system Hope you enjoyed! And thanks for watching 😊
