Exactly five years ago, on the 14 of
October to 2014, we opened the Vertical Forest to the tenant families that were
entering in the building and I could say that now we start to consider
this experiment as a kind of successful experiment. The first trees were entering
seven years ago and now, after seven years of trees living here, of five years
of people inhabitant tenants living here, we could say that the capacity of the
building to absorb CO2 and transform it in oxygen, the capacity of this
building to clean the air of Milan absorbing the dust of the pollution, the
multiplication of species, all this means that we are very proud.
It’s so rare in the life of an architect to see the result of such experimental
building and I’m very proud of how this building is representative for Milan
but I’m also very proud because I think that we are
now replicating this concept of building which introduced living nature not only
as a decoration but as a basic component of its life. We are reproducing,
regenerating, interpreting this concept in many other part of the world:
in China, in Holland, were we are building the first social housing Vertical
Forest, so the building will be affordable for everybody, in Belgium, in French, in Mexico, in Northern Africa, in India.
Well, in many other parts of the world we are
trying to redesign and interpret the story of the Vertical Forest and this is
probably something which makes what we have done important and it makes us so proud.
Thank you so much
