Michelle Ragany, food and agriculture business student

[music] I’m a second year food and
agricultural business student studying at the University of Guelph and I chose this university specifically
because it allows me to improve the lives of others
through improving food systems. I decided to study this
program in high school and what really peaked my
interest was the fact that I could combine my
passion for food and business together in to one degree. And it’s really nice because
now its come full circle and I’m working as an OAC liaison. So I get to find other young
eager students like myself when I was in high school
to come to the OAC and gain the same passion for the
food and agriculture industry that I have. It’s important to improve the
food system in Canada because it not only allows for Canada to
develop further economically and provide more stable
jobs for the industry, but it also provides food safety for Canadians
as well as individuals internationally. Being a part of the food industry
is important to me because I’m not only improving the food system
for those that consume the product but I’m also improving the lives
of farmers that are producing it. The job opportunities for this
program are actually really great. There is currently four jobs for every one
graduate with my degree specifically, and I have already found
great success in pursuing different career
opportunities for summer, with lots of opportunities and alot of people reaching
out to you to actually be employed by them. What I like most
about the university is my opportunity to do a lot of
things outside the classroom and I’m heavily involved
in many academic groups but also I’m on the
varsity rowing team. I’d like to extend my sincere thanks
to both the alumni and the industry. They’ve provided the college with
funding that allowed me to attend the specific OAC liaison event where
I did find my passion for this program and I would like to thank them
for the continual financial support that allowed me to be a
student within the college as well.
