Meet the 2017 GFB Excellence in Agriculture Winners

[Skye Pennino – 2017 GFB Excellence in Ag
Winner] This past year has, has been amazing. You know, starting off in January with the
discussion meet, making it all the way to the final four. And I guess the greatest thing that has happened,
I guess to me personally through it is, people have started to recognize me more as a person
who’s involved in agriculture, than what I actually do for income and being lawyer. And so It’s really opened up a platform for
me to be able to talk to people about farming, and agriculture, and about what we do. That’s been huge for us. We certainly have enjoyed each and every experience. Then going back to Jekyll this summer and
competing together as a team in the Excellence in Ag. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner
in doing that competition and super, super proud of Josh and everything that he put into
that. [Josh Pennino – 2017 GFB Excellence in Ag
Winner] When we moved here, that’s how I knew that
she was the girl for me. You know she moved out …city girl, she moved
out to the country with me and we’ve been here I guess three or four years now and you
couldn’t run her away from here now. It’s been a wild ride. I mean, I don’t know what’s around the next
corner. I don’t even know what’s going to happen next. I guess the good Lord’s just looking out for
us. That’s the only way I know to say it. But It’s just like anything else involved
with agriculture, you have very little control. Very little control of the rain, or the sunshine,
or even the markets. But um, it’s uh… it’s been a wild ride. [Skye]
You know, I think we have excellent communication between one another and we both really try
hard to work as a team and it’s all about supporting one another in our relationship,
in life, in our goals, and I think that’s what we’ve really done well from the get-go
of being with one another, and we really have that mutual interest in seeing each other
succeed, and we love to challenge each other, and push each other to the next level. [Josh]
Skye never gives up. She can be the best at anything she wants
to be. You could put her in any situation and she
will figure it out. She’ll figure out the answer to whatever it
may be, the law question, or if we’ve got a sickness issue, or whatever it may be. Skye can… she can find the answer. [Skye]
A lot of people underestimate Josh. He didn’t get to go, have the opportunity
to go to college, but he has been in this industry since he was 15 years old. He’s worked at sale barns and he is just so
business savvy and he does an excellent job. Every morning when we get up he’s reading
the market reports, and he’s researching, and he’s always interested to learn something
new about the industry. I really think that gives him a great edge. Josh will actually, this is his last year. He is aging out. He will not be a Young Farmer anymore, but
this will be it for us. We’ll continue to go. I don’t age out for a little while, so I will
continue to go to Jekyll, and support the Young Farmer program, and be a part of it,
but as far as competitions, this is it. [Josh]
Yeah, I couldn’t think of a better way to go out. I mean, we uh, the stars have just been lined
up right the last two years I guess you know with Skye with the discussion meet and then
now. Maybe uh, maybe we go to Nashville in January
and maybe we can bring it home for Georgia.
