How to Play Grimm Forest in 4 Minutes – The Rules Girl

I’m the Rules Girl, and this is Grimm Forest:
a fantasy game of bluffing and resource collection for 2-4 players. In Grimm Forest, players are nieces and nephews
of the three little pigs, gathering resources to construct their homes, while making friends
and tricking each other with fable cards. The goal of the game is to win, and you win
by assembling three complete houses. Players start the game with their player board
and four gather cards. Each round is split into three phases:
Gather Build
And Clean Up In the gather phase, each player chooses one
of their gather cards and places it face down. Once all players have chosen their cards,
they reveal them simultaneously and place their pigs onto the corresponding location. If a pig is alone on a location, that player
takes all the resources available, but if multiple pigs are present, the players must
share and divide the resources equally. Later in the game, players can receive fable
cards, powerful actions which must be revealed in turn order before revealing gather cards. Some fable cards allow players to pl ace monsters
onto locations, which cause negative effects for any players present at that location. Monster cards must be used wisely as players
try to deduce where their opponents chose to gather. At the end of the gather phase, discard all
played fable cards, and return gather cards to their owners’ hands. In the build phase, players can do any two
of these four things: Draw a fable card
Gain 1 resource Build, and
Perform special actions There are three types of houses, all built
using resources from the gather phase. Each house requires three sections to be complete. Starting with the floor, then walls, and then
a roof. Floors cost two resources, Walls cost four
resources and allow the player to draw a friend, and roofs cost six resources. If a house is the first complete of it’s
type, grant the owner a first builder bonus when completed. Players have five build sites on their boards,
and can build multiple houses at the same time, so long as no two incomplete houses
are of the same type. When a player draws a friend card, they can
choose to keep the card, or give it to another player. These cards grant all sorts of passive special
abilities, but players can only have one friend at a time, so if you receive a new friend,
you must discard your old one! Finally, in the clean up phase, players do
these three things: Pass the starting player marker to the next
player clockwise Retrieve their pigs from the location boards
and return monsters to the supply And replenish each gather location with the
resources depicted on the location board The game ends after the build phase when a
player has completed three houses. That player wins the game. If two players finish at the same time, the
winner is the player with the sturdiest house types. Ready to play? Place the four gather location boards on the
center of the table, side by side, excluding the market board if you have less than four
players. Place a mega straw token, mega wood token,
and a mega brick token on the corresponding location boards, piling the other resources,
house sections, and monster miniatures nearby, and place the matching first builder bonus
at the bottom of each board. Shuffle the fable and friend cards into separate
decks. Give each player the player board, gather
cards, and pig miniature of their color. The starting player is the person who most
recently ate bacon. If you enjoyed Grimm Forest, you might also
