Herbert College of Agriculture: 10 Things About Our Deans

*Music* I usually start my day waking up at six
o’clock and it’s not out of choice because I have a rescue Shetland sheep dog she’s pretty old and she thinks her job is to wake me up at six AM even on
weekends. I’m not a morning person so I usually start my day with a cup of coffee let all the dogs out and then have another cup of coffee. I start my
day I get up in the morning I go get my cup of coffee I go turn my iron on to
iron my shirts and then the next thing I do is let the cat out because the cat
always likes to go out first thing in the morning after that I read some news
and get dressed and come into work. *Music* I like my coffee and I have to admit with
three cream and it’s got to be real cream it can’t be that powdered stuff. Oh, wait a minute wait a minute Dr. Stier must have made this coffee because it’s pretty strong. This is one cup I probably would have put five cream in. I like my coffee hot with cream and
always in a real mug. *Music* I find my inspiration probably the best place is in the barn. because when I’m in the barn and I’m around the horses and the zebus, it’s a very peaceful place to think. And when I look at them it makes me and it makes me feel very appreciative of agriculture and what we do and the potential for the future. I find my inspiration from people, particularly the young people. Especially
when they get that gleam in their eyes because of some new experience that
they’ve just had and and you can tell it is just opened up a whole new world for
them that’s what I want to do for other people. *Music* The last one was the prequel to the Game
of Thrones series, because I had to read all the books to really understand the series. I hate to admit it but I’m a real Game of Thrones fan. The last book I read was
These Truths by Jill Lepore. It’s a new American history civics type book. *Music* I think probably Makino. Because I like
their squid, and they’ve got really good sushi and I like spicy stuff. My favorite place to eat in Knoxville is actually probably big Ed’s pizza in Oak Ridge. It’s the best pizza that I have found yet in the state of Tennessee. *Music* I want to go to the Grand Canyon. Because I’ve never been to see the Grand Canyon. And you shouldn’t live in the United States, and you shouldn’t go through your entire life without seeing something that is really that awesome. Oh probably
the next place I’d like to visit is Australia because I have never been
there. The closest I’ve been is is New Zealand and it is one corner of the
world that I’ve not been to yet. *Music* I think the superpower would have to be to be
able to heal people. My one superpower would be to know what is bothering
people so that I could help them through it. *Music* My least favorite food would have to be
canned peas. They are so gross. My least favorite food would probably
distress my friend Dr. Irwin Goldman at University of Wisconsin because it’s
beets. *Music* When I was young I wanted to be a medical doctor. *Music* The last song I sang in my car was Suite: Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby, Stills & Nash Young. *Music* Don’t forget to celebrate your victories,
and not all of life occurs in a classroom so get out of the classroom
and find out all the fantastic things you can do. Get out and enjoy life and
enjoy the clubs and enjoy the people you’re with. Engage. Engaging with other
students, engaging with faculty, engaging with the staff will open doors for you
and help you through and make sure that you’re successful as you want to be. *Music*
