Free Agriculture and the World We Live In Course – Overview – Open2Study

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, my name’s Russ Tillman, and
I’ll be taking this course on agriculture. I’m a professor emeritus at
Massey University in New Zealand, and my original area of
expertise was soil science. And in the last 40 years, I’ve
been doing research and teaching students about the
importance of soils in farming and about the impact that
farming sometimes has on the wider environment. And in this course, we’ll be
looking at how agriculture’s practised right around
the world. And in doing this, we’ll start
by looking at the crucial role that agriculture plays in
feeding the world’s ever-growing population. And then we’ll start to drill
down and look at individual farms, the different
types of farms that exist around the world. And in doing that, we’re going
to look at some of the economic issues, the
environmental issues, and even the animal welfare issues that
are impacting on those farms. We’ll then move on and have
a look at some of the sustainability issues that
affect farming, and we’ll finish off by looking at some
of the new, exciting IT applications that are
transforming modern farming. So, it doesn’t matter whether
you’re mainly interested in outdoors, working with animals,
or you’re more comfortable in a business suit
high up a multi-rise building conducting international
commerce, or your main interest is IT. After you’ve done this course,
I’m sure you will see that there’s opportunities for
careers in all those areas in agriculture. So, I hope you enrol, and
I’ll see you then. [MUSIC PLAYING]
