though Christmas is over you still might
need again for Valentine’s Day a birthday a hostess gift and in this
video I’m going to show you how to make this really really nice metal folder
it’s elegant and shabby chic and perfect gift if you want to learn how to make it
follow me what’s up amazing and also glue dots annually the midnight crafter
today’s craft as you saw is a magnetic memo board I’ve made a bunch of these in
different colors with different trays the one that I’m making for this
tutorial is a Dollar Tree tray but I really love buying my trays at the
thrift store because some of the old trays and stuff you can get are really
inexpensive and they’re ornate and they’re just they make a gorgeous memo
board anyway before we get to this project I would really love it if you
join our flea adopt family by hitting the subscribe button right down there
it’s that red box that says subscribe hit the bell next to it and it will
inform you when I upload any new videos also I love hearing from you so leave me
comments even if you just want to say hello it’s awesome for me I love it so
if you like my videos give me a thumbs up I mean let’s just go through the
checklist here share like comment I think right now what we should just do
is get right to this video so I can show you this quick easy and beautiful
project so let’s do it we’re gonna do is take a male ideally a
larger nail than this one would be great and we’re gonna go out and make two
holes that we’re gonna be using to hang this from with chain so I’m gonna be
spray-painting this white just using a regular probably rust-oleum or whatever
brand of spray paint but before I spray it I’m gonna make my hole so that I’ll
be able to attach my chain later make sure you clean your tray off really well
first before you spray-paint it so that you don’t get any fingerprints and you
also get good coverage okay so I thought maybe I should show you how I’m making
these holes and I’m not really sure how to do this and hold my camera at the
same time so I don’t know if I’ll be able to but I made one hole already
and you can see it there I’ve put I have a wooden table that I use outside and
I’m going to put the nail right here at the edge of my tray and then hammer it
through until it makes the hole I’m probably that’s the only way I can’t
show you while I’m hammering it but that’s what I’m doing that’s how I’m
doing it okay so you can see I’ve got it hammered in
there and I’m just gonna pull that out now and I have the holes now if you want
to you can go ahead and just drill your holes if you’re someone who has access
to a drill that would be probably just as easy or I don’t know easier maybe not
but that’s an option as well okay you gotta love when you just recorded a
whole segment and it didn’t actually record so I’m gonna go through again
these brooches now we’ll go on top of these magnets I’m using e6000 adhesive
plus a little bit of my hot glue to attach them and these are from totally
dazzled if you have not yet purchased or even shopped at totally dazzles website
I would highly recommend it Isis are really reasonable and she has
just some beautiful pieces over there so you’ll have to check it out all right so
attach each of your whether it’s a button or whatever if it is a button you
do want to use wire cutters and remove the bottom the little button part so
that you can easily attach it to your to your magnet this one’s a little concave
so that should be interesting I’ll probably need to add a little extra glue
on that one this makes such a great gift you guys so if you know someone that
likes kind of that shabby chic style it would make a really great gift for
somebody if you’re enjoying my videos give me a thumbs up leave me a comment
but even better if you wouldn’t mind sharing it I really appreciate that
because that’s what especially helps my channel to grow more quickly so I hope
you will and I hope you will join us and become a glue dot too and see what other
kind of good stuff we have in store so now we have our three pieces ready I
have to wait for my my worst part waiting for things to dry so I’m waiting
for my tray to dry and then we will come in and finish up this project finally my
tray is dry I’m so excited because I just don’t like to wait so now you can
see it’s you know it’s a little too perfect for me so I’m just gonna use my
little sanding block that I have from Dollar Tree you can use a piece of
sandpaper and it’s just too kind of shabby this up a bit we don’t want it to
be so perfect and painted because that kind of takes away some of the the
interest we want to add interest to our project here now if you you can get
these I got this tray from Dollar Tree but thrift stores have amazing trays
that are beautiful for four or five dollars you can really get some nice
really nice trays and a lot of times they
a much better pattern to them or they have some curved edges they’re a little
more ornate and this is an optional step if this is something that you don’t want
to do that’s fine I just like to have a bit of that shabby
chic look as opposed to something that’s perfectly painted and new looking you
can distress this as much or as little as you would like okay I think I’m good
with that I didn’t spray paint the back of mine I kind of just did the edges a
little bit but because I’m too impatient if you’re not impatient then spray the
back side too but you know that’s me for ya okay so the next thing we’re gonna do
now this is just a piece of chain I make jewelry also so I had this chain but you
can buy inexpensive chain at Michael’s or any number of craft stores or another
option if you have an old necklace that you’re really not using or even from the
thrift store an old necklace or just a piece of chain so because the links on
mine are a little too short to fit all the way through there I’m going to need
to use a little bit of wire if you can get a chain that has bigger links you’ll
be able to put it directly through to there and you won’t have to worry about
this extra step of wire okay so I’m going to pass my wire through there and
also pass it through my chain and just attach those I’m just passing it through
again so it doesn’t have a weird twisty edge and look tacky so twice around
through making my loop through my chain basically I’m making like another link
and decide how long you want your chain I don’t think it needs to be all that
long so I’m just gonna do a little piece like that and I’m gonna do the same
thing on this side so truly ideally if you can find a chain that has bigger
links or make your holes closer to the edge of your tray is really
optimum if you don’t want to have to go through having to make these extra loops
this extra chain part so the last thing we’re going to do to finish this off is
take a piece of our ribbon and I’m gonna use this burlap one just to give it a
little more shabby chic feel make sure you cut a long enough ribbon by the way
if you do that because it’s really hard to tie a bow if you don’t have enough
and this one is a bit thick so as I usually do with this which it is from
Dollar Tree this burlap lace ribbon I usually cut it down the center so it’s
an arrow or a ribbon and I think it looks really pretty that way too
then you’re going to tie it to the one side of your chain close to the bottom
of that and just go ahead and tie your bow last thing we’re gonna do is add on
our adorable little magnetic brooches and I’m gonna go ahead and show you this
up on the wall it’s so cute
Cute idea, thank u for sharing
I love this idea. You could also use old earrings to decorate the magnets.
Very cute
Love the blue one. I wonder if you bought magnetic paint and glued some lace or dollies down on a plain tray then painted it with the paint if that would work
Cute and practical.

Good Morning Elaine. After being on utube since I don't know when, I actually watched one of your videos for the first time. It was the one about your Dollar Tree Mirror. You made the Mirror surround into a beautiful earring holder and you framed the mirror too match and they looked beautiful hanging together. They gave me ideas to match other things I have waiting to do. We call it the Ron Box as it's projects to do later Ron ha ha Thanks Elaine. Happy belated New Year
