Diamond and Silk – Liberty University Convocation

>>DIAMOND: Liberty University, make some
noise. [AUDIENCE CHEERS]>>SILK: Yes!>>DIAMOND: First of all, we would like to
say thank you to President Falwell, to all of the pastors, the student body. Thank you so much for the invite, we are so
excited->>SILK: It’s amazing.>>DIAMOND: About being here. And it is amazing, Silk.>>SILK: It’s amazing. Yes.>>DIAMOND: It’s amazing.>>SILK: Yes. Yes it is.>>DIAMOND: You know, I know you all are wondering,
where did these two black girls come from, and how- how did all of this start?>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: And I told Silk, I said, “Silk,
we’re going to a religious college, so don’t bring that drink.”>>SILK: No, we can’t drink.>>DIAMOND: Mm’hm.>>SILK: Yeah.>>DIAMOND: Leave that drink at the mansion. You know we staying in a beautiful mansion,
you all.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: That’s fully stocked with food. I love it. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: So you want to know how it all
started.>>SILK: Uh huh.>>DIAMOND: Well here’s what happened. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: I love y’all. I was minding my business watching my television.>>SILK: Mm’hm. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: And I called my sister, I said,
“Girl,” I said, “cut on your T.V.” I said, “Donald Trump is announcing that
he’s running for president.”>>SILK: And I stopped what I was doing and
I turned on my T.V. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: And then she called me back halfway
through, she said, “Girl.”>>SILK: “Girl.”>>DIAMOND: This how she said it y’all. She said, “This is going to be the next
president of the United States.”>>SILK: That’s what I said. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: And then she got a chill.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: Now here’s what y’all don’t
know about Silk. Whenever Silk get a chill- [AUDIENCE CHEERS]>>DIAMOND: Yeah, you got one now, don’t
you?>>SILK: I got one now. Yes, honey.>>DIAMOND: That means that something is about
to happen. Something is going to happen.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: So we didn’t think anything
else about it, but we noticed how the media and some in the very fake news was trying
to change the narrative. Trying to change our minds, and we didn’t
like that.>>SILK: Mm’mm. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: So I picked up my iPad that I
got for my birthday. I didn’t even realize a camera was on the
iPad. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: Didn’t know it.>>SILK: Didn’t know it.>>DIAMOND: Pulled it out the box and saw
that camera, and I started talking and she started posting it to YouTube. And we started talking about how the media
was trying to get us to change our tune and to change our mind. And what we needed to let the media know,
and everybody know, that we have our own mind, and we can think for ourselves. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: That’s right. Yes, yes.>>DIAMOND: We didn’t need anybody spoon-feeding
us a narrative. And so baby, we started talking and here we
are today.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: So we come today to give you some
life lessons.>>SILK: Uh’huh. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: Because it really don’t take
a whole lot to be successful. We didn’t have to do a whole lot. All we had to do was be ourselves.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And I always say that self-esteem
start with self. That’s why they call it.>>DIAMOND & SILK: “Self” esteem. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: I can’t get it from you.>>SILK: No.>>DIAMOND: I got to get this here from within.>>SILK: From myself.>>DIAMOND: That’s right.>>SILK: Yes. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: So, you know, we started something
called the “ditch and switch” now. And a little bit about the “ditch and switch”
now, you know, I know it was politics and I know everybody may not agree with our politics. But we was telling people that we wanted to
come off of that Democratic plantation and out of their mindset and switch their parties
to Republican.>>SILK: Mm’hm.>>DIAMOND: We was telling them that in the
political arena.>>SILK: Right, right, right.>>DIAMOND: Oh, you can clap on that. I’m ok with that.>>SILK: Yeah you can clap on it. It’s okay to clap, yeah. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: But then when you think about
that theme “ditch and switch” and when I’m giving it to you all, sometimes you
all you gon’ have to ditch what feels familiar.>>SILK: Uh’huh.>>DIAMOND: You gon’ have to ditch what
feels like you’re in a box. You gon’ have to ditch that, and some time
you gon’ have to switch that to something else so that you can be better, and you can
do better.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: It ain’t nothing wrong with
it. I know we get so comfortable.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: With staying in our box.>>SILK: In the box.>>DIAMOND: But somehow we gon’ have to
think outside of the box.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: Another thing, everyone one of
you all have a gift.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: All you have to do is unwrap it
and use it. I didn’t understand- or we didn’t understand
that our gift was talking and being mouthy. Now y’all don’t know but I’ve always
been mouthy.>>SILK: Always, yeah. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER}>>SILK: She’s- yeah.>>DIAMOND: I’m the one that get us into
all of this foolishness, and Silk try to figure out how to get us out of it. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: It’s always been like that.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: But I didn’t know that my mouth
was gon’ turn into a gift because some things has got to change.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: I didn’t realize that. So you got to use your gifts.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: don’t be afraid to use it.>>SILK: It’s about using what you’ve
got to get what you want.>>DIAMOND: Using what you got to get what
you want.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: I love that, Silk.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And sometime we are afraid to
use it, and we don’t even realize that fear is false expectations appearing
real. That’s all it is.>>SILK: That’s all it is.>>DIAMOND: But you know what, Silk?>>SILK: Uh’huh?>>DIAMOND: Sometimes you have to walk through
the fear->>SILK: Of the unknown->>DIAMOND: To get what you want.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: So when we picked up the iPad
and started talking, we was walking through the fear of the unknown.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: Because we didn’t know nothing
about none of this.>>SILK: No we didn’t. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: I love it, Silk. Not only that, you all, but you have to get
out of your comfort zone.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: We had to get out of that stinkin’
thinkin’. You know, for so long in our community, especially
in the African-American community, we have been taught to do things a certain way and
only one way.>>SILK: Uh’huh.>>DIAMOND: But this time we decided, oh no,
we don’t need anyone thinking for us, we can finally think for yourself. Don’t be afraid to think for yourself.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And you’ve got to stop holding
on to baggage.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: Holding on to bag- past baggage
and bringing that into the present. Because you can’t move forward with that,
can you Silk?>>SILK: No you can’t, gon’ weight you
down.>>DIAMOND: It’s gon’ weigh you down.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: Imagine I got to take on your
baggage->>SILK: Ooh!>>DIAMOND: And her baggage->>SILK: Oh, Lord.>>DIAMOND: And her baggage.>>SILK: Oh my gosh.>>DIAMOND: Then how am I gon’ go out here
in the world and succeed, and I’m carrying everybody baggage?>>SILK: You gon’ be strained.>>DIAMOND: Sometime you got to leave that
baggage at the door and move forward. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: Yes. Yes.>>DIAMOND: And if you’re going through
a crisis, you’ve got to learn how to turn that pain into power. You got to learn how to do that. Turn that hurt into happiness.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: Ooh, I feel happy right now, girl.>>SILK: Woo!>>DIAMOND: Turn that test into a testimony.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: And turn that mess into a message.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: Yes, yes. You know, you can’t stay stuck in the past,
and in the past of your pain.>>DIAMOND: You can’t do it.>>SILK: Because when you do that->>DIAMOND: Mm’hm.>>SILK: You can’t move forward->>DIAMOND: You can’t.>>SILK: To your present.>>DIAMOND: That’s right.>>SILK: Which can be peace, love, joy, and
happiness.>>DIAMOND: Mm’hm.>>SILK: But if you continue to focus on that
pain, guess what you gon’ get?>>DIAMOND: You gon’ get more of it, girl.>>SILK: More of the same.>>DIAMOND: That’s right, I love it.>>SILK: So it’s time to change your mindset,
because you are what you speak, from your head to your feet.>>DIAMOND: Bam. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: I love it, Silk. You said that thing, girl.>>SILK: Yes, yes.>>DIAMOND: And then I like to ask people,
are you a giver or a taker? Because everybody be like, “You all so giving,
you just give of yourself.” And we do, when we see a need.>>SILK: Yeah.>>DIAMOND: Because I realize that we are
one nation, under God. [AUDIENCE CHEERS]>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: I am pro-life, pro-gun, pro-American. I love the United States of America. [AUDIENCE CHEERS]>>SILK: Yes, yes.>>DIAMOND: And I don’t have a problem with
giving, but are you a giver or a taker. And let me explain.>>SILK: Explain.>>DIAMOND: A giver gives->>SILK: Mm’hm?>>DIAMOND: Without expecting anything in
return.>>SILK: Right, right.>>DIAMOND: A taker give, and always expecting
something in return. So are you a giver, or are you a taker? Can you give of your time and your service
without always expecting for something to come back?>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: Or are you just sitting around,
“Ok, yeah you got to give me something in order for me to do this here.”>>SILK: Mm’hm.>>DIAMOND: What are you, and who are you? Are you a giver or are you a taker?>>SILK: That’s right.>>AUDIENCE MEMBER: Preach it, Sister!>>DIAMOND: Now I love to be a giver, girl. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>DIAMOND: Somebody told me to preach. I love it!>>SILK: Woo, Hallelujah.>>DIAMOND: I felt it.>>SILK: Hallelujah.>>DIAMOND: And when you all are out there,
and when you go out there to in the world->>SILK: Yeah.>>DIAMOND: Listen, when you’re building
a foundation you want to always build it with God, faith, love, and->>DIAMOND & SILK: Unity.>>DIAMOND: Always do that. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: And I know the Bible says, “Faith
is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.” But faith is also feeling as if the thing
has already happened. If you want to be successful and prosperous,
then you have to feel like it has->>DIAMOND & SILK: Already happened. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: And the thing about God, He’s
not gon’ bring you to it and not see you through it.>>SILK: That’s right. That’s right. [AUDIENCE CHEERS]>>DIAMOND: Whatever you want to be, if you
want to be that, if He has a calling on your life->>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: He’s gon’ see you all the
way through it.>>SILK: All the way through it.>>DIAMOND: That’s why you have to feel
as if the thing is about to happen.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: You know, when the president was
running for the United States, from day one we felt as if the thing was going to happen. And the thing happened.>>SILK: That’s right. No doubt [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: And once you doubt, you have to
do without.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And if you gon’ pray, then don’t
you worry.>>SILK: Mm’hm.>>DIAMOND: And if you gonna worry, then it
ain’t no sense in you praying about it.>>SILK: Don’t even pray.>>DIAMOND: So you got to make a choice.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: I love it, Silk.>>SILK: Can I also say->>DIAMOND: Go ahead, girl.>>SILK: That you want to make sure that you’re
doing what you love, and you’re loving what you’re doing.>>DIAMOND: That’s right.>>SILK: Okay? Because it don’t make no sense to do something,
and you don’t even love it. Can you do it without getting paid for it?>>DIAMOND: Mm. Uh oh.>>SILK: Oh?>>DIAMOND: We talking to the young people
that- “I got to have some money.”>>SILK: Ooh.>>DIAMOND: “I got- you got to give me some
money.”>>SILK: Got to have some dollar bills”>>DIAMOND: Uh’huh, yeah. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]>>SILK: Can you do it without getting paid
for it? You want to love what you are doing, and do
what you what you love.>>DIAMOND: Mm’hm.>>SILK: Then the money will show up.>>DIAMOND: That’s right, in ten-fold.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And it also takes a team to build
a dream.>>SILK: That’s right!>>DIAMOND: It ain’t no “I” in team.>>SILK: No.>>DIAMOND: “I done did this.” “I did that.” “It’s mine.”>>SILK: Yeah.>>DIAMOND: Uh’uh, it takes a team to build
a dream.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: And we used to always say something
when we was on the campaign trail, girl. And I know it’s not campaign time, but we
used to say this, “Focus on the goal and not the poll.”>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: We would tell people to focus
on the goal. What is it that you want?>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: What is it that you’re focused
on? You can’t tell me that you want rain but
you ain’t got no umbrella to prepare yourself for the rain.>>SILK: Mm.>>DIAMOND: You can’t tell me that you want
money but you ain’t prepare yourself to have the money. You don’t even have a bank account.>>SILK: Mm.>>DIAMOND: You ain’t even saving no money.>>SILK: Mm!>>DIAMOND: So you got to prepare yourself
for what you want, girl.>>SILK: And what you focus on expands!>>DIAMOND: That’s right. So when you go out here into the world and
if you think it’s not gon’ be good for you, it’s gon’ be good for everybody but
you.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: Whatever you focus on. And I always used to say, if you ever want
to know what’s going on with the body, look at the head.>>SILK: Check the head.>>DIAMOND: So if your head is successful->>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: If you’re speaking the right
thoughts->>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: If you’re walking in alignment
upon what God wants us to do->>SILK: Yes!>>DIAMOND: Then, baby, you can be as successful
as they come.>>SILK: That’s right. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: And don’t let nobody stop your
blessing.>>DIAMOND: That’s right. I always say, the more they hate, the more
you educate. Your haters will make you greater. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: Oh yeah. They don’t want to hear that. You gon’ have some haters. Don’t you worry about the haters.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: You know Diamond and Silk wouldn’t
exist if we didn’t have the haters.>>SILK: Mm’hm.>>DIAMOND: If we didn’t have them call
all of our names, we wouldn’t even exist today. But sometime you have to educate when they
hate. And when you have to tell them that you can
think outside the box.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: You can no longer vote for a system
that keeps handing you crumbs.>>SILK: Uh’huh.>>DIAMOND: Your voice is your power, so you
use it. Your vote is you power.>>DIAMOND AND SILK: Use it! [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: Yeah, they don’t know where
you- where we been through.>>SILK: Mm.>>DIAMOND: They don’t know what we been
through to get here. But it didn’t take nothing but a little
small iPad, and all of you to hear it. And if I had to do it all over again, Silk->>SILK: Uh’huh?>>DIAMOND: I would do it all the same way.>>SILK: Most definitely.>>DIAMOND: And if you all want to go out,
and when you go out into the world, sometime you gon’ have to pick up the simplest things
and start opening up your mouth and using your power->>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: And speak the truth.>>SILK: Yes.>>DIAMOND: And sometime people may not like
it, and that’s okay. It’s okay.>>SILK: That’s right.>>DIAMOND: Because one day they will love
you. One day they will thank you for speaking the
naked, nasty, low-down truth. And I always say->>SILK: Yeah.>>DIAMOND: The truth may make you feel queasy,
or uneasy, but the truth, and nothing but the naked truth is what’s going to set everybody
free. [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>SILK: You know what Diamond? It’s 11:21 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, my alarm is going off. And I don’t care what we’re doing, we
stop, and we pray. Even if we’re driving down the street, we
stop and we pray because we pray for our nation. [AUIDENCE APPLAUSE] So if everybody can stop right now and join
us in prayer, because it’s 11:21 and it’s time to pray. Bow your heads. (PRAYING) Heavenly Father, we come to you
this day thanking you God for this great opportunity to be in this beautiful place. Thank you, Lord, for giving us all the desires
of our heart. At this time, Lord, we pray for our president,
President Donald J. Trump, and Lord we ask you to put your hedge of protection around
him. Any evilness that is around him we ask you
to move it out, Lord. Anyone that wants to do harm to our president
we ask you to put your hedge of protection around. Bless this nation, God, save our nation, God. And Lord for everyone that’s here on this
campus, Lord we ask you to give them the desires of their hearts.>>DIAMOND: Yes.>>SILK: Lord, if there’s any evilness or
any jealousy or anything that is not like you in here, we ask you to drive it out and
replace it with love, peace, joy, and happiness. We ask you to continue to send your showers
of blessings to each and every person, and we know that you’re the only one that’s
able to do it for us all. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray, Amen. (END) [AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]>>DIAMOND: And in my closing I would like
to say, Liberty University, each and every one of you all have what it takes, so go out
there into the world and go get what you want. God bless you, and God bless the United States
of America. We love you, Liberty. Thank you.>>DAVID NASSER: Come on everybody, can we
thank them just one more time? Thank you, ladies. Thank you for speaking such truth. Man, fantastic. Hey, uh real quick, on your way out just be
mindful of one thing. Again, be praying for the Graham family in
this day, and there are a lot of people who’re going to hear the gospel as they turn the
T.V. on today. Be praying for, uh, Billy Graham’s life
to be a loud sermon, all right? God bless you guys! We love you! Get out of here!
